Supplying PDF artwork - preferred method
This is our most preferred type of file. When saving your file please make sure you select “High Resolution”. Font embedding should be set to “embed all fonts”.
Proofing
We assume that the files you send us have been proofed by you and are ready for printing. This means you have checked the document for all spelling and grammatical errors, colour issues, layout and design before sending us your artwork. Although we will do our best to ensure that the files you send us are set up correctly, if you follow the guidance below you should not have any issues.
CMYK not RGB
Please ensure that all embedded images are CMYK. RGB images may look good on screen but final output to print is always CMYK. You should be aware that files converted from RGB to CMYK may alter the colour composition significantly.
Bleed
3mm bleed on all sides. Bleed refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet after trimming. As the paper can shift slightly during trimming failing to provide bleed can result in finished print showing a thin area of white on the edge. (artwork where type or images do not reach within 3mm of the edge of the page does not need to have a bleed.)
Spot Colours
All spot colours need to be converted to CMYK before creating the PDF. If the PDF is set up with spot colours these will be converted before printing and may cause incorrect colour reproduction.
Fonts
All fonts need to be outlined or embedded, if not when your document is opened on another computer that doesn’t have access to the original fonts, different fonts will be substituted instead.
Images
For best results ensure all images are at least 300dpi in the final PDF. Please do not take images or logos from websites as they will be saved at screen resolution 72dpi and may not reproduce well.
Printer and Reader Spreads
Please do not supply printer or reader spreads unless already agreed with Palm Graphics. Set up as a multiple page document in running order.
Safe Zone
Allow 3mm safe zone. A safe zone is the distance you should allow from the edge of your finished page size for text or images not going to bleed.
Copyright
Ensure that you have permission to use any images or logos included in your artwork. Make sure you’re not breaching any copyright regulations.
